Race Management and how to join in the fun.

So you want to be a Race Officer?  Most people start by working with an existing Race Officer - and I can help arrange for prospective ROs to work in different parts of the country with an experienced RO.  I would quite regularly have aspiring ROs work with me on the foredeck at whatever event I am running - just ask and we can arrange an event to suit.  To gain the qualification you will also need to attend the two day Regional Race Officer Seminar - this will provide a great grounding on all the techniques and stuff you need to know and also show where you can get help and advice.

RYA National Race Management Conferences
The RYA runs a National Race Management Conference for Race Officers, Judges and Umpires every two years over a weekend usually in Feb/March.  The will be run again this year (2017) at Wyboston in Bedfordshire.  This is open to any RO or aspiring RO and is a great opportunity to update skills, learn from other ROs, Judges and Umpires and make new friends.

RYA Regional Race Management Conference

In alternate years from the National Conference we run a local (Northern Ireland) one day conference where, on a much smaller scale, we get together and keep ourselves up to date with the latest techniques and share our experiences. The last one was held in Ballyholme YC in March 2016.  Next one in early 2018.

ISA Race Management Conference

This is now run every two years as a one day event, usually the first weekend in March.  Next one should be run in 2018.  If you operate in Ireland you should go to this conference - great for sharing ideas and meeting people.

Last one was run in February 2016 (including yotter making a fool of himself tallking on Technology in Race Management)

So - seek out and talk to your local experienced RO (they will only be too pleased for the help) or contact me direct for advice.
